Drawing from the diverse symbology of protective objects, from the ancient world to present day, Tabayer designs are objects of guardianship beyond possession. Tabayer redefines the amulet in the Oera knot and brings a new symbol of protection—a universal cypher, that goes beyond differing regional and cultural traditions.
Tabayer, a female-founded American independent fine jewelry brand, will debut its first collection Oera in the US at the Las Vegas Couture Show from June 9th to 12th.
Founded by Nigora Tokhtabayeva, Tabayer is an exploration into the timeless and universal language of protection. Drawing from the diverse symbology of protective objects, from the ancient world to present day, Tabayer designs are objects of guardianship beyond possession.
Tabayer is inspired by Nigora’s own upbringing between Uzbekistan and America. She is deeply influenced by her grandmother’s connection to jewelry as spiritually powerful objects, contrary to ideas of jewelry as ornamentation. During her studies in the US as a teenager, Nigora discovered and became passionately drawn to American modernist art. Tabayer unites traditional symbols and codes with inspiration from an American modernist sculpture including Jackie Winsor, Eva Hesse, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Archipenko.
Inspired by the Mesopotamian sign of Inanna’s knot—a coiled bundle of reeds that represents fertility and protection—the core motif of the Oera collection, Tabayer redefines the amulet in the Oera knot and brings a new symbol of protection—a universal cypher, that goes beyond differing regional and cultural traditions. Its knotted shape, tactile, sensually rounded is sculpted in gold and accented with diamonds. It gradually acquires a knife’s edge mid-point, resulting in asymmetric ends.
The Oera Collection features 45 pieces, available in a number of variations crafted in a monochromatic palette of yellow gold, white gold, and white diamonds. At Couture 2022 Tabayer will debut a new colorway, featuring 8 designs in rose gold paved with champagne to brown diamond ombré, with select pieces set with inverted brown diamonds.
Tabayer is deeply committed to protecting the earth. Each piece is handcrafted in family-owned workshops in Italy from environmentally conscious and ethical materials. Tabayer exclusively uses Fairmined gold and Tabayer diamonds are sourced through one of the most experienced dealers, who not only ensures compliance with the Kimberley Process but maintains a trusted network of partners who all have audit processes in place along the supply chain who ensure environmental and social protections are being upheld.
The Oera collection features price points from $1,900 to $37,000.
